![]() Soon the building season (aka winter) will pass on to a
new flying season. Its given me pause to think of the
projects Id intended to get done this winter, but didnt.
First and foremost, theres the SSC combat kit my
mother-in-law sent for my birthday last June. Its a fun
scale Corsair. The kit is out of the box on the bench,
but no progress yet.
Then theres the Something Extra kit I won in the raffle
at Ladysmith last year. I really enjoyed flying Leons
plane last summer, so I wanted to build this kit to have
as an old reliable to fly. I havent opened the box yet.
Lets see, then theres the WW2 1/12 scale combat
planes I wanted to revive. This includes 2 - IL-2
Russian attack planes, 2 - FW 190 German fighters, a
TA 152 German fighter and an AD 1 Sky Raider fighter
bomber. Each of these is in some state of disrepair,
mostly combat damage from past events. Looks to be a
while before I dust them off and spruce them up.
It seems like the only answer to having more time for
catching up on these projects is early retirement.
Hmmm, thats not in the cards for another decade or
two.
Before I get too bummed about what didnt get done, I
think of the flights and building that has gotten done.
Mostly preparations and new designs for open combat
planes, but should have some pretty fair equipment to
compete with this year. Also there was the repair of the
existing fleet, stuff like fixing the Funtana after snapping
it in half (twice).
Id guess that most of us have an endless list of
projects were going to get to some day. That seems to
be part of the charm of this hobby.
For the near future, theres the R/C Forum being
sponsored by a group of flyers in the Eau Claire area.
Please see the announcement on the web site. It
sounds like a lot of valuable information will be
available on engines, construction and the AMA in
general. Im looking forward to meeting new friends in
the hobby. I hope youll consider taking it in. Give a call
or make a web post if youd like to carpool.
See ya at the field!

The Presidents Report
The weather this month wasnt as kind as January, but
still allowed for some flying opportunities. The old
Funtana and some combat planes were seen off Lake
Chetek a few times. Flight tested a revised .15-sized
combat plane at Leons during Saturdays meet, and
had the Funtana and some foamy flights at a fishing
contest on Sunday. Not surprisingly, I didnt catch any
fish.
