![]() the south end of the park through Evelyns property. I
was recently informed that Evelyns daughter, Janet
Lowe is the guardian of Evelyn and her estate, and that
we also needed permission from Janet to access the
south park through her property. Janet lives in Arizona,
and after we contacted her she was hesitant to give us
permission over the phone. Janet said she would be
coming up for Mothers Day and could meet with us to
look the situation over. The Park Board has told us that
they do not want us driving down there on the parks
grass for now, so we will have to park at the end of the
old runway for the time being and transport our
equipment by some other means. My apologies to
everyone for the inconvenience, but this was an
unforeseen situation until it unraveled. Our members
need to understand that this is a very complicated
situation trying to operate a RC flying field within the
complexities of a city public park. Remember that we
also have Leons field AMA insured as a club field.
Leon has a very usable flying field and its open to all
club members at any time.
Everything we need to fly at our new location has been
moved down to the parks south end. We have also
been busy cleaning up our old location. The very nice
white & orange spectator safety fence has been pulled
up and put in storage until we find a new permanent
location for it. Just so everyone understands, we
should no longer be flying off the old runway (now a
parking lot) because of safety issues. Safety was the
main reason that our Board Members and the Park
Board decided we should move to the south end after
many of our members complained of the conflicts at the
old location. There are still concerns of flying over
people on the walking trails at the south end.
I recently had a meeting with Ronn Kopp, Dale Hansen,
and Jim Dorance about scheduling flying time in the
park. The understanding is that if there are no games
or scheduled practices in soccer fields 9 or 10, that we
should be safe flying on the south end in conjunction
with other soccer activities in the North end of the park.
Soccer fields 9 & 10 are the two fields between field
11(our new location) and the end of the old runway
(now parking area). The south end of the paved
parking area should be a no fly boundary while sharing
the park with scheduled soccer events. We also
discussed what days our club should have priority to fly
in the park. Dale Hansen suggested that we have
weekends, and at least one weekday for open flying.
Jim Dorrance (RLYSA) agreed to Tuesday, Thursday,
Saturday, and Sunday with a few stipulations. There
are a few high school girls JV home games scheduled
on field 9 on Thursday and Tuesday evenings. The
dates are 4/21, 4/26, 5/3, 5/5, 5/10, and 5/12. The Park
Board could possibly move those to another field.
