![]() Prairie Farm High School gym again this winter. I have
tried booking gym space closer to Rice Lake, but that
has not been successful as of yet. For those of you not
familiar with indoor RC electric flight, it has become a
very large part of the RC hobby in the last few years.
Many of the nations top pilots are now participating in
indoor flying competitions. Its a whole new adventure
flying a plane in a confined space. Its great that you
can usually walk away from a crash with little or no
damage. Because the planes generally weigh less than
16 ounces, there is a lot less impact momentum than
we experience with our larger outdoor planes. The
actual airframe cost is very minimal, as inexpensive
foam is the most common building material. Repairs
are quick and easy. Lithium battery technology has
made flight times upward of 20 minutes easy to obtain.
I see this aspect of our hobby becoming a lot more
popular in our part of the country, because of our short
outdoor flying season. Anyone interested in trying
indoor flight should contact me, and well see if we can
get you some trial stick time.
There has not been any more discussion with the Rice
Lake Park Board since our last meeting with them, but I
assume all is well with our plans. There will be a park
board meeting on the 3rd Wednesday of January, and I
suspect we will know more about our flying site
situation shortly after that meeting. Many of you have
asked for details on the situation, and I still feel hesitant
to say its a done deal until we hear the official word
back from the park board.
In a nutshell (1) we
presented to the park board the problems we are facing
trying to fly at our current location. (2) The park board
has suggested a new flying site location for the RLMAC
on the south end of Moon Lake Park that should
remedy most of our current interference problems. (3)
The RLMAC board members have agreed to the new
location and we are in the process of proposing a new
flying site layout to the park board for approval.
Leon Olszewski has volunteered to be our event
committee organizer this year and I am grateful to him
and everyone else that has taken on a role as club
officer, committee leader, committee volunteer, or
helped out in any other way. It really makes the whole
presidential experience much more enjoyable knowing I
have a team to lean on. As many of you may have
noticed, I like organization but I am not a very
aggressive planner of traditional events. If our
membership shows a significant lack of interest in
some aspect of our club, I would much rather see that
lost energy redirected in some new venture that may
spark new interest and enjoyment to a broader number
of our club members. I believe things do need to
change with the times, and our changing hobby. I
think Leon will have a few suggestions and ideas to
present at our next meeting. Im sure he will also be
looking for a few volunteers to help out.

The Presidents Report
Wow! Without having a December meeting I nearly
forgot about sending out the monthly newsletter. All
the more reason I should be fired from my position as
club president
I hope everyone fared well over the holidays. It does
seem like a long time till warm flying weather, but the
thought of days getting longer from here on out cheers
me up. I plan on booking some indoor flying time at the
