The President’s Report

I would like to welcome our newest club members, Jason Kothbauer of Cameron, Philip Korth of Clayton, John, Christopher, and Jack Ester of Rice Lake, and John Moullette of Rice Lake. Welcome aboard! If any club member is in need of flight training help, please contact me. I have a list of available volunteer pilot trainers.

The controversy continues over our flying field situation. Fall soccer season is once again upon us, and the availability of our Moon Lake field will be greatly limited. I have requested a soccer practice and game schedule from the president of the soccer association, and that will be posted as soon as it becomes available.  Many members have shared their desire for a full-time dedicated flying site, but our current resources seem very limited. We do have Leon Olszewski’s field available in Chetek to all members. I am having a map with directions to Leon’s field sent out with this newsletter.  Driving distance also seems to be a concern with many members. Given our membership is spread out over a rather large area, it is not practical for a club our size to have a designated flying sight within a few miles of every member.

I have made the recommendation to our board members that we get together and compile some form of membership survey to be mailed to every RLMAC member. In an attempt to get an accurate consensus of what direction our flying field situation should go, we

need to gather as much information from as many members as possible. We must work within the practical limitations of our resources. Our club does not have funds available to purchase land, and we do not know if we have enough member support to consider donations to purchase land.  Leasing premium flying land long-term from a non- club member seems very difficult.  It is an ongoing frustration to all, but it’s not a unique situation we are in.  Finding a secure flying site that satisfies the majority of our members is a real challenge. We must continue to support each other in hopes that we will find an acceptable solution.  We welcome any and all ideas for consideration.

I hope to see many of you at the upcoming area fun fly events.   Till next time

…Kevin

Minutes

Meeting called to order with eight members present. Minutes from July approved as read. Treasurer’s report approved as read. Three new members have joined the club, with another joining soon. Total membership is forty-four.

Committee report from Joe, to put on a display at the Cedar Mall would cost $20.00 for liability insurance, 30 tables are available for free, and free advertisement on the marquis. We need to know by April if we really want to do this. Motion made by Rusty to carry on the planning the mall show, and to see if any vendors and other clubs would be interested

Joe brought up discussion about having a float fly site at moon lake park, much discussion on this topic.

Much discussion on current field status, and issues with field not being available whenever we want to fly. Discussion about alternate flying sites, possibly Leon’s and discussion of other private property for possible flying sites. Discussion of questionnaire in August newsletter. Meeting adjourned.
